ZOARVILLE — Curtis Love is currently concentrating on coaching his Tuscarawas Valley baseball team right now, but when summer and fall rolls around his thoughts will be on football as the Trojans’ new head football coach.

Love was hired to be the new Tusky Valley coach at a Board of Education meeting Monday night, replacing longtime mentor Dale Martini.

Love, who has been an assistant at Tusky Valley for the past eight seasons, is chomping at the bit to get started.
“I’m really excited,” said Love. “It’s a great opportunity. It’s the first coaching position I really pursued.”

Being familiar with the Tusky Valley system is a bonus.

“That’s one of the best things,” said Love of his hire. “I’m familiar with the kids and they’re familiar with me. Working under Coach Martini was great and hopefully I can live up to what he’s done here.”

Love is a 1994 graduate of Indian Valley High and Mount Union College, where he majored in history and minored in secondary education. He has been at Tusky Valley since 2001 and teaches world studies.

Martini coached at Tusky Valley since 1993, compiling a 107-59 record during his 16 seasons at the Trojans’ helm. He stepped down last November with more victories than any other Trojan football coach in school history.

Tusky Valley made five playoff appearances and won three Principals’ Athletic Conference titles under his leadership.
