McKinley wide receiver Malcolm Robinson heading to Buffalo

Updated: Monday, August 8, 2011

CANTON  The third player on McKinley High School’s football team committed to a college before the season over the weekend. Wide receiver Malcolm Robinson made an unofficial visit to the University of Buffalo and attended a cookout for recruits there.

Shortly after that, his mind was made up.

“The coaching staff and the academics there were just a good fit for me,” said Robinson, who’s 6-foot-2, 182 pounds. “I’ll fit in perfect. I talked to some of the receivers already up there, and they said I should fit in and the coaches thought I’d be a perfect fit. Plus, they have three receivers leaving after this season.”

Robinson caught 11 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown last season.

Robinson joins teammates Se’Von Pittman and Jermaine Edmondson, both of whom are going to Michigan State, as McKinley’s top three commitments before the season even starts.

“He went up there after our midnight madness practice (early Saturday morning) and he loved it,” McKinley head coach Ron Johnson said. “They’re really happy with it and pulled the trigger on it. They’re recruiting a quarterback from Lexington High School, so it will be nice to have a quarterback-receiver combination from the same area.”
