CANTON McKiney beat Masillon, 35-21, on Saturday at Fawcett Stadium. With the win, the Bulldogs (6-4) appear to be headed to the postseason.
McKinley is tied with Hudson for eighth place in Division I, Region 2, according unofficial calculations at the high school football Web site joeeitel.com but earned the tie-braker based on third-level points — calculated by strength of schedule. The Ohio High School Athletic Assocation will release the official pairings Sunday afternoon.
If the No. 8 seed holds up, McKinley would head to Toledo Whitmer on Saturday, Nov. 7, for a first-round game.
After the wind knocked a 32-yard Massillon field goal attempt off course, McKinley came right back with a 66-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Ohradzansky to Angelo Powell to take a 7-0 lead.
Massillon responded with a drive deep into Bulldog territory, but a Brice Everett interception at the McKinley 2 turned the Tigers back.
McKinley turned that into a long scoring drive of its own, capped by Ohradzansky's 1-yard TD run.
Massillon got on the board with 3:46 to go in the first half as Jake Reiman scored from 1 yard out., but then Taron Montgomery came right back with a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The Tigers made it 21-14 on another 1-yard run by Reiman the closed an eight-play, 80-yard drive with 46 seconds before the half.
In their first drive of the third quarter, the Bulldogs punched it in on a 5-yard TD pass from Ohradzansky to Powell.
Massillon got it back to 28-21 on Reiman's third 1-yard TD run with five minutes remaining, but Bryce Wilder pushed it back out to 35-21 on a 21-yard TD run with 1:11 to play.
Massillon drove the length of the field but had two passes fall incomplete in the end zone as time expired.
Tigers sophomore running back Alex Winters suffered a leg injury early in the game and did not return.
