MASSILLON The Tigers' defense held the state's reigning Mr. Football Erick Howard to just 99 yards on 38 carries and Bo Grunder had 16 tackles, as Massillon defeated Hoover in this Division I, Region 2 quaterfinal game at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
Massillon got on the board first on a Jake Reiman 5-yard TD run in the first quarter. A.J. Sarbaugh made it 7-3 after kicking a 43-yard field goal in the second.
Devin Smith caught a 5-yard TD pass from Robert Partridge and Jeremy Geier added a 24-yard FG to make it 17-3 at the break.
Howard then scored the only other touchdown with a 1-yard score in the third quarter.
